Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor returns to say goodbye to Gary Russell
While the Tenth Doctor and Jenny, the Doctor’s Daughter might never return to the screen together, they did return…on Twitter!
As a goodbye present to Gary Russell, a Doctor Who writer, the two staged a scene with the two characters. It’s always amazing to see an actor step into their old character’s shoes, and it’s even better to see David Tennant. If there’s ever an actor who loves their character as much as we love, it’s Tennant himself.
Gary Russell has been a long time writer for Doctor Who novels, Big Finish audios, and Doctor Who comics. He’s also written episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood, including two of David Tennant’s last episodes. He’s directed and acted in a range of Big Finish audios, both Doctor Who and Big Finish originals.
With all of his many contributions to the Doctor Who and Big Finish world, it’s no surprise that Gary Russell has lived in Cardiff for many years. In Doctor Who, Cardiff is a dangerous place that sits on a rift of time and space. With Gary Russell currently living in Cardiff, but about to leave, makes the perfect setting to bring the Doctor back. Jenny? Well, she’s not so impressed.
The last time we saw David Tennant step into his sandshoes was the 50th Anniversary. For most other actors, it would take a huge event to get them back on screen. Apparently, all it takes for Mr. Tennant is a way to say goodbye to a friend. To me, the best thing about it is David’s take on an almost-perfect screen accurate outfit.
Any Whovian would know it’s not the exact outfit or coat, but David did try his best. And Georgia’s deadpan face throughout the whole thing gives us a glimpse of what the Doctor and Jenny would be like if they were together for too long.
