Doctor Who: Georgia Tennant is ready to have more stories about Jenny
Big Finish’s Doctor Who
If you know me, or if you’ve been following the site for almost a year, you know that one of my biggest pet peeves with Doctor Who is how they handled Jenny. It’s been covered so much, that I don’t have to tell you the history of what happened.
All you need to know is that Moffat, not wanting Jenny to die because of his own reasoning, decided to turn around and kill Jenny. Off screen. In an off-handed comment at a convention. Now, I know that it’s been bothering me — but I’m a fan with time to think about these things.
According to Steven Moffat:
"“Apparently it was me that kept her alive, because I said – when I heard about the idea – ‘Oh don’t kill her at the end, that’s the Star Trek thing to do.’ So he kept her alive just because I said that.“And I wrote to him after and said, ‘Well I didn’t know that I did that,’ and he said, ‘Oh it doesn’t matter, Steven, she flew straight into a moon!’”"
So now it was RTD that had Jenny fly straight into a moon? Well, apparently Georgia Moffett contacted them and told the Times all about it.
"“I sent [Steven] and Russell an email, with a link to the story, going, ‘WTF?’ To which they both wrote back slightly panicked replies, about it being sort of a joke. Clearly wasn’t a joke.”"
But now that’s all water under the bridge (or rocket crashed into the moon). Whether or not the two writers were just picking something off the top of their head or truly gave it thought doesn’t matter.
Whatever happened to Jenny, we’ll at least get an audio set with stories about her time in space. Like her parent, we’ll see what it’s like when she picks up a companion, Sean Biggerstaff, Harry Potter‘s Oliver Wood. Georgia is especially excited to have more things to talk about other than anecdotes of one episode.
"“But now, I’m going to have LOADS of stuff to talk about, so they’re going to have at least another 10 years of me banging on,” Tennant said. “So that’ll be fun for everyone.”"
Dear Georgia, if you ever want someone to listen to and happily write up ten years of you talking about working with Big Finish, we’ll be happy to oblige.
