Just recently, WiC writer Brooke Deines went on a whirlwind tour of Game of Thrones filming locations in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland has been the home base for the Game of Thrones production since the show began, and fans have been flocking there ever since. Now, Lake Zurich Travel has put together an 8-day, 7-night journey that highlights the best filming spots, from Winterfell to Storm’s End to the Kingsroad to the Haunted Forest and more. And the beautiful scenery and coastal vistas are a nice bonus.

Vacationers will enjoy:

  • 4-star accommodations
  • Private Winterfell orientation
  • Movie set archery
  • Breakfast daily at hotel (except morning of arrival)
  • Transfer to Dublin Airport on departure day
  • Guide for walking tour in Dublin on Day 6
  • Pre/Post trips to Iceland and Dubrovnik available
  • Custom trips available for 10 or more people

Check out the itinerary below:

  • DAY 1: The forests, mountains and moorlands around Northern Ireland are the stage for Game of Thrones’ most memorable moments. It was here that Brienne clashed with the Hound, Littlefinger and Sansa passed the Bloody Gate, and Jamie made his one-handed escape. Inch Abbey, where Robb Stark was proclaimed King of the North, caps off the day.
  • DAY 2: Titanic Studios, one of Europe’s largest film studios, is used to create countless interiors for Game of Thrones, including the Red Keep Throne Room and the Sept of Baelor. Set in the historic heart of Belfast, these hallowed halls have witnessed more backstabbing, literally and figuratively, than you could swing a mace at.
  • DAY 3: Leaving Belfast behind, set your sights to Cairn Castle and the series’ very first episode. It was here that Ned Stark took his long-sword Ice and struck off the head of a Night’s Watch deserter.
  • DAY 4: Visit the Dark Hedges, or the King’s Road, a beautiful avenue of beech trees planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. Next is Ballintoy Harbor, the picturesque coastal nook where Theon Greyjoy arrives back to the Iron Islands. And you’ll see Dunluce Castle, aka the House of Greyjoy, and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge from which Balon Greyjoy fell to his death.
  • DAY 5: There cannot be a more wild and dramatic headland in Northern Ireland than Downhill Estate. With the iconic Mussenden Temple in the background, Downhill was used for the scene where Lady Melisandre burned the seven gods of Westeros in sacrifice to R’hllor.
  • DAY 6: After getting captured, Arya Stark was dragged to the Brotherhood Without Banners’ hideout, filmed in Pollnagollum Cave in the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark.
  • DAY 7: Today is all about Dublin. Tour Trinity College, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and then pull yourself up to the almighty Gravity Bar on the 7th floor of The Guinness Storehouse for the most scenic complimentary pint in Dublin.
