Game of Thrones season 7 swept up more industry awards over the weekend, this time at the 65th annual Golden Reel Awards, which honor the best in sound editing.
Sound editing is one of those cinematic disciplines that doesn’t get a lot of attention from viewers, because if it’s done right, you shouldn’t notice it. But the sound editors editors on Game of Thrones deserve credit for making the music, dialogue, and dragon roars sound as good as they can. And this past Sunday night, they got it, taking home two awards.

As you can see, Game of Thrones had to contend with a lot of competition from Netflix. Indeed, shows from Netflix took home the most awards overall with five, but Game of Thrones was the only individual show or movie to win more than one award.
Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Episodic Short Form – Effects / Foley
The complicated sound effects during the Loot Train Attacks were outstanding, so this award was definitely deserved.
The sixth episode of Game of Thrones season 7, “Beyond the Wall,” was also nominated in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Episodic Short Form – Music / Musical,” but lost to “Chapter Eight: The Mind Flayer,” an episode from Stranger Things season 2. Next time…
Congratulations to all the winners!
