It’s late in the game (of thrones), but there’s still room for new blood in HBO’s mega-hit. Fansite Watchers on the Wall reports that actor Frank Blake has been cast in the role of a “Northern sentry.” And before you congratulate the former CEO of Home Depot, know that this is actually the young Irish actor best known for a recurring role on the second season of Netflix’s The Frankenstein Chronicles, headlined by Game of Thrones’ own Sean Bean.
We’ve known about the Northern sentry role since September of last year, when we described it thusly:
"This is another role with scenes opposite leading cast members. HBO wants “a characterful young Northern actor with great timing.” He’ll shoot in the first week December."
HBO wanted someone 18-25, and it looks like they’ve found their man. The role filmed for a week back in December, so Blake has already completed his stuff. That’s one less chance for me to become a star.
The note about HBO wanting someone with “great timing” makes us wonder if we’re in for a soft repeat of the bit in season 7 where Arya Stark intimidated her way past a pair of Northern guards after she returned to Winterfell, assuming “great timing” means “great comedic timing.”
We also recently learned that HBO was looking for actors to play a young mother and her daughter, so the incidental cast of season 8 is filling out.
Next: Season 8 filming: The Unsullied shoot at Magheramorne Quarry
