Game of Thrones again teams up with Major League Baseball

For the second year in a row, HBO and Major League Baseball are partnering to deliver specially customized “Game of Thrones-themed events, giveaways, ticket specials and experiences to participating MLB ballparks this summer,” according to a press release from HBO. Effective “immediately,” fans can purchase single-game tickets for every planned Game of Thrones event at MLB’s website. Only they can’t, because all that’s at that link is a note to check back for more information. But will be able to soon.

Naturally, they put together a video to announce the partnership:

Before Game of Thrones season 7 aired last year, HBO and MLB partnered to bring special Thrones-themed events to 20 Major League Baseball parks. Along the way, they sold MLB-style player bobbleheads modeled after characters from the show, Thrones-themed video board games, special Westorosi food and drinks at park concession stands, and HBO/MLB co-branded tee-shirts and caps, on top of holding Game of Thrones costume contests and releasing special Snapchat filters. The Washington Nationals even hid dragons eggs around the DMV metro region and sent fans on a scavenger hunt. Let’s hope we see similar creativity from the fans this year.

And of course the Iron Throne was everywhere. Just ask San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy:

Bochy has probably never seen an episode of Game of Thrones in his life, but that’s okay — at least he enjoyed his “chair.”

Per the release, “details for participating Clubs and the unique experiences offered at these ‘Game of Thrones’ summer events in 2018 will be announced at a later date.” Stay tuned. And don’t forget to get in on the action using the hashtag #GoTMLB.
