Season 8 filming: A flaming sword shows up at Magheramorne Quarry—See the video
By Dan Selcke
The last time we saw Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer), he was staring agog as the Night King, riding an undead Viserion, blew a hole in the Wall near Eastwatch-by-the-Sea. The show left Beric’s survival up in the air, although it seems unlikely that Game of Thrones would send off Beric and Tormund Giantsbane with so little fanfare. And now, the born-again warrior of light has been seen on set at Magheramorne Quarry, where the crew has been shooting extensively in front of a huge green screen at night.
Well, we haven’t seen Beric, exactly, but we have seen someone wielding a flaming sword, Beric’s signature weapon. Look for it in the video below, which comes courtesy of Twitter’s own Davy Orr. The sword appears about 17 seconds into the video, held aloft by someone behind a wagon to the left of the center of the screen. (There’s also a crew member on the right side of the screen holding up a lighting device — ignore that guy.) Then, at about 24 seconds in, the guy with the sword moves out from behind his cover, and we get a better look at the weapon.
True, there’s no confirmation that it’s actually Beric Dondarrion wielding this flaming sword, but with Thoros of Myr having died back in season 7’s “Beyond the Wall,” we’re not sure who else it could be, unless Beric has taught the trick to someone else.
Whoever’s wielding it, all the wights in the area best watch out.
