Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2 cover revealed with new logo
By James Aggas
Earlier today, Big Finish revealed the brand new cover for July’s box set, Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2. More than that, it’s one of the first covers to include the new logo for the TV series!
At Doctor Who Watch, we’re excited for any news regarding any Eighth Doctor or Time War releases. After all, each of them individually represents a clear gap in the TV series. More than that, Big Finish have released many high quality stories for each range.
Unsurprisingly, The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 1 was an exceptional combination of both from last year. With a second volume due in July, we’ve been keeping an eye out for any news about the upcoming release.
In an official announcement today, Big Finish have finally revealed the cover for The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2. And what an exciting cover it is!

There’s a lot going on in this cover. We have our first glimpse of the Twelve, the incarnation directly following the insane Time Lord villain the Eleven (who also features in Doctor Who: Ravenous 1). It’ll be interesting hearing this new incarnation (as well as her previous personalities), as played by Julia McKenzie.
We’re also seeing the return of the Ogrons. These thuggish henchmen previously appeared in Third Doctor stories Day of the Daleks and Frontier in Space.
New logo
However, what really leaps out about this cover is how it’s one of the first to feature the new logo for the TV series.
This is a really significant change for Big Finish. Previously, Classic and New eras had been separated by different brands. New Series merchandise would feature the current logo at the time, while Classic Series merchandise featured variations of the logo used for both Jon Pertwee and Paul McGann. The Classic Series brand was then extended to include all Doctors previous to Twelve.
Now, it looks like both eras will fall under one clear brand. In the same announcement, it’s been confirmed that the new logo will also be used for other ranges. This includes the monthly main range of Doctor Who audios from Big Finish.
This is certainly an intriguing development. For the cover of The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2, at least, it seems to have been incorporated really well. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects future covers for Doctor Who audios.
Regardless, the cover for The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2 is certainly exciting. Let’s hope that the box set itself lives up to it.
