16) DAVID BRADLEY

Yes, we love to hate the nefarious Walder Frey, master of ceremonies at the gut-wrenching Red Wedding. But you’ve got to hand it to veteran English actor David Bradley for fleshing out one of the most vile villains ever to appear on TV.

Known for his dark turn as the nasty caretaker Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies (photo below), Bradley tells The Yorkshire Post that “Fans of the show (Thrones) tend to be quite wary when they approach me. People will say, ‘Ooh, I hate you, you’re horrible’.” And in an interview with The Telegraph, he said that Potter scribe J. K. Rowling once “told me I was fabulously foul.”

If Bradley looks familiar to you, you’re not alone. The guy has gotten around. In addition to his Harry Potter role, he’s had parts in films such as The Frisco Kid (1979), The Exorcist: The Beginning (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and The World’s End (2017).

Television is Bradley’s main gig, and he’s been at it a long time. his first role was as a policeman in the Nearest and Dearest back in 1971. He’s also appeared on shows like Coronation Street (1980), Casualty (1995), Vanity Fair (1998), Midsomer Murders (2003), Blackpool (2004), The Tudors (2009), Another Year (2010), Broadchurch (2013), Medici: Masters of Florence (2016, with Thrones veteran and murder victim Richard Madden) and The Strain (2014-2017).

Bradley has also been a part of the new Doctor Who series; he starred as William Hartnell, the original Doctor Who, in the Mark Gatiss-written biopic An Adventure in Space and Time (2013, above) and has also appeared on the regular series (2017).

Bradley appears in the film Await Further Instructions this year. He also has a small uncredited part in the series Britannia.
