28) RICHARD DORMER

As the mysterious, oft-resurrected Lord of Blackhaven/Red Priest, Beric Dondarrion could come off as a scary guy, but his dark wit and resilience, interpreted with gusto by Irish-born Richard Dormer, has won him many supporters among the Game of Thrones fandom. Like many British actors, Dormer has has a successful career in the theater. We could watch an entire play with him treading the boards as the complex Dondarrion, who he plays as a Robin Hood.

We don’t know what happened to Dondarrion and Tormund Giantsbane when the Wall collapsed at the end of season 7, but we sure hope they’ll be back for the final round—they’ll certainly be needed.

Dormer plays the sheriff of an arctic Norwegian mining town in Pivot TV’s dark crime thriller Fortitude. He compared working on that show to working on Thrones in an an interview with Esquire:

"One was fire and the other was ice. Beric was one of the hottest experiences in my life. Filming in a cave, with a flaming sword, in that leather armor. It was boiling hot. It topped 40 degrees (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in the studio. Fortitude was very cold. Both productions were designed by Jemma Jackson and I think they both have that epic look. She’s a genius."

Dormer is a veteran actor with a long list of minor credits, including stints on Soldier, Soldier (1992, starring fellow Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, among many others), The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1993), Hidden (2011) and Good Vibrations (2012, with Thrones alumnus Liam Cunningham).

By the time Dormer appeared on Game of Thrones in “Now His Watch has Ended” in 2014, his career was already taking off, and he’s since won leading roles in TV and film projects like ’71 (2014), Fortitude (2015-2017) and Rellik (2017).

Dormer has no future projects currently listed on his IMDb page.
