44) IAN GELDER

Kevan Lannister didn’t have a huge part in Game of Thrones, although he seemed to be a chip off the same block as his brother Tywinn. Played with gravitas by veteran English actor Ian Gelder, Kevan was obliterated along with many others in the destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor at the end of season 6.

Gelder has been popping up on TV screens since he appeared in the series New Scotland Yard in 1972. His stack of TV credits includes Edward the King (1975), I Thought You’d Gone (1975), Absolutely Fabulous (1995), The Bill (1991-1998), Casualty (1993-2004), Robin Hood (2009), Torchwood (2009, above), Ripper Street (2016) and Snatch (2016). Gelder’s film roles include Little Dorritt (1987), The Fool (1990), King Ralph (1991), The Informant (1997), Pope Joan (2009) and Shakespeare’s Globe: Titus Andronicus (2015).

Gelder spends a lot of time on stage (he did King Lear with Thrones veteran Jonathan Pryce at the Almeida Theater in 2014, above), but in an interview with Essential Surrey, he also talks about the joys of working in the golden age of television:

"I was so delighted to get Game of Thrones – it’s an absolute phenomenon and I am very proud to be part of it. The new age of television is really great for us actors. I used to call my agent and be told, ‘Sorry, it’s really quiet’. But now, it’s so busy. Great actors are now happy to do TV, so when they do a play, more people go to the theatre, so each is feeding the other. It feels like we’re part of a growth industry."

Gelder has no IMDb projects scheduled for 2018 or beyond.
