45) THOMAS BRODIE-SANGSTER

There was never much doubt that the sweet and frail Jojen Reed wasn’t going to survive very long, but London-born actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster plugged us all into Jojen, portraying him as a young man bravely determined to carry out his destiny even though he’d already seen his own fate.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, Brodie-Sangster was asked if it was interesting to be a non-warrior character in the violent world of Westeros:

"Yeah, it is. When I first found out I was a little bit disappointed that I don’t get to do any sword fighting or bows and arrows or anything like that (laughs), but in some ways it’s kind of cool, that I’m [the] male character, [but] my sister carries all the weapons and does all that side of things. In a show that’s full of a lot of blood, a lot of violence, a lot of sword wielding and a lot of death, my character is actually equally as strong, but much more spiritual and in control through his mind. It’s a much more interesting path."

Despite looking very young when he first appeared on Thrones, Brodie-Sangster had already developed a very respectable acting resume. His TV roles include parts on Station Jim (2001), Feather Boy (2004), Doctor Who (2007), Phineas and Ferb (voice, 2007-2015), Accused (2012), Wolf Hall (2015) and Godless (2017, above).

Brodie-Sangster’s first big movie moment came as the little boy Sam in Love, Actually (2003, below). He’s gone on to appear in some major motion pictures such as Nanny McPhee (2005), Tristan and Isolde (2006), The Last Legion (2007), The Maze Runner (2014), The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015).

While interviewing Brodie-Sangster, the Huffington Post asked if there was a possibility that we might see Jojen again in season 8, perhaps through Bran’s time-traveling greensight. “I quite like the idea of that as well,” Brodie-Sangster responds. “Like kind of come back like an Obi-Wan spirit, kind of cool. No, I haven’t heard anything from HBO.”

Bummer. Ah, well, you can keep up with Brodie-Sangster in 2018 by catching him in the current TV series Thunderbirds are a Go (2015-2018, voice) and the film Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
