It’s time for A Song of Dan and Josh, the show where FanSided editor Josh Hill and myself walk through chapters of A Song of Ice and Fire one at a time, analyzing and educating. We’re still talking through A Game of Thrones. On this week’s agenda: Sansa III and Eddard XII.

The podcast version ofTake the Black Live is now on iTunes! Please subscribe and download from there if you can. Also, you can help us out by giving us a five-star rating and leaving a friendly comment! We’re also on Blog Talk Radio.

The gimmick here is that I’ve read the books multiple times while Josh has only ever seen the show. Oh, the contrast. Watch us ramble below:

Our topics include:

  • Sansa’s early chapters are interesting between the tone contrasts so starkly with chapters told from the perspective of, say, Ned and Catelyn. Basically, Sansa has far less weighty things on her mind. What does that add to the book?
  • It’s no secret that some fans don’t approve of Sansa’s actions, at least not this early in the story. Does she deserve antipathy, or should we chalk it up to normal tweenage growing pains?
  • This is a hugely consequential chapter for Ned. This is the one where he tells Cersei of his plans ahead of time in a noble effort to spare her from Robert’s wrath, not expecting Cersei to turn it around on him. What do we make of Ned’s Big Mistake?
  • This chapter pays off a lot of hints given earlier in the book…but not in the way we were expecting. Or: How is Ned XII like Star Wars: The Last Jedi?
  • Is Cersei Lannister a villain? We take a close look.

A Song of Dan and Josh airs with Take the Black Live every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. CST on our Facebook page. Next week, we’re only talking through one chapter, because it’s a big one: Daenerys V.

Next: Game of Thrones finishes shooting in Spain, probably for the last time
