Welcome to another episode of Take the Black Live, the weekly show where FanSided’s Kayla Knierim and I discuss the latest goings-on in the world of Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. This week, the story is all about Con of Thrones, which I was lucky enough to attend in Dallas last weekend. We’ve got cosplay, we’ve got panels, we’ve got celebrity guests…we’ve even got a snippet of an exclusive interview with Hannah Murray (Gilly), who dropped some juicy season 8 teases for us. The fun begins below:

We’ll have more footage from Con of Thrones soon, including more sit-down interviews with the cast and crew, highlights from panels, and lots of interviews with the amazing fans, who gave it their all and were easily the biggest reason to attend the con. I can only hope next year’s gathering, which will likely fall pretty close in time to season 8, is as much fun.

Apart from that, we hit a few news-y topics, such as the announcement that George R.R. Martin will be adapting his 1980 short story The Ice Dragon as an animated children’s movie and the reveal of Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s wedding date. And finally, on a somber note, we say goodbye to Kayla, who’s leaving FanSided. This is her last show.

Kayla’s been on Take the Black Live (formerly WiC Live) since the beginning, and it’s hard to imagine doing it without her. I love her energy, I love her enthusiasm, and it was a great pleasure to introduce her to Game of Thrones. After watching through the whole series with her and talking about it week after week, I like to think we made a fan out of her.

Best of luck, Kayla! If you’re ever back in Chicago, we have a glass of wine waiting with your name on it.

And of course, Take the Black Live will go on, with Culturess’ Cheryl Wassenaar as the new cohost. She’s filled in for Kayla a few times already, knows her Thrones, and I’m very much looking forward to kicking off a new era for the show next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. CST on our Facebook page. See you there!
