The writer of Westworld’s “Kiksuya” also developed one of the Game of Thrones prequels
By Dan Selcke
Last night’s new episode of Westworld, “Kiksuya,” is getting a lot of good press, with many people, us included, wondering if it’s the best episode of the show yet produced.
Was “Kiksuya” as powerful as “The Door”? We don’t know if we’d go that far, but you get the idea.
“Kiksuya” was written by Carly Wray, who’s worked on shows like Mad Men, The Leftovers, Mindhunter and, of course, Westworld. If that name sounds familiar to you, it may be because Wray was one of several writers tapped by HBO to develop prequel ideas for a new Game of Thrones series. The full list of writers includes:
- Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island)
- Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, X-Men: First Class)
- Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River)
- Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers)
Since then, HBO has decided to make a pilot based off Goldman’s script. However, as A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin reminded everyone today, that doesn’t mean the other shows are dead. “Three more GAME OF THRONES prequels, set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, remain in active development,” he wrote. “Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come.”
Martin also mentioned that, so far as he understands, yet another potential successor show has been “shelved,” but we can’t know which one. The upshot is we may yet hear that Carly Wray’s idea will be developed into a series, and with “Kiksuya” hot off the presses, that news would be welcome indeed.
