Game of Thrones has a long tradition of putting musicians in cameo roles. From Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson playing royal executioner Ilyn Payne to Coldplay’s Will Champion appearing at the Red Wedding, there’s a rich history there.

And then there are near-misses we didn’t even know about it. For example, during a recent episode of The Strombo Show, legendary Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant revealed that the show once reached out to him and offered him a part!

While Plant doesn’t remember what role he was offered, he thought it involved riding a horse and turning his nose up and somebody. And then he rips into the finale of “Stairway to Heaven” and the Kingsguard bangs their heads up and down ’til they fall off? No?

As for why he turned the role down, Plant said he didn’t want to be “typecast.” I don’t know exactly what he means by that, but this isn’t the first time Led Zeppelin has intersected with a popular fantasy property. They’re known to be pretty big Lord of the Rings fans. “The Battle of Evermore” even mentions Ringwraiths, for Pete’s sake:

And “Misty Mountain Hop” should ring a bell with fans of The Hobbit.

If you ask me, Plant looks like he’d have made a great Ser Brynden Tully. And you know, we didn’t technically see him die when the Lannisters took Riverrun in season 6. Someone get Nina Gold on the line.
