Westworld secrets will be unveiled and all storylines will collide in the season 2 finale titled “The Passenger”.

In Westworld, all roads lead to the Forge and the Valley Beyond. Check out the episode promo as we preview some of the most intriguing character and plot developments heading into the final chapter of season 2.

Warning: Major spoilers for episodes 1-9 of Westworld season 2 will follow.

The Forge

Scenes with Bernard, Dolores, and Ford’s consciousness within the Cradle were visually distinguished from ordinary scenes by changing the aspect ratio. This same aspect ratio is used for many scenes in the finale’s promo. Angela already destroyed the Cradle, though.

It seems that this aspect ratio is now used to distinguish scenes taking place inside the Forge, a version of the Cradle in the Valley Beyond. The most significant difference between the Forge and the Cradle is that the Forge contains programming and memories of all the guests rather than just the hosts.

More from Westworld

This is the data that Delos has been collecting from the guests for many years, secured and simulated within the Forge in order to one day perfect the process of immortalizing the guests as hosts.

Every single guest should have a data profile within the Forge. This is why despite having lethally overdosed years ago, Logan appears in numerous scenes within the promo, all of which contain the aspect ratio to let fans know the scenes are taking place inside the Forge.

His data profile is stored in there and being simulated, along with all the other guests. This includes his father James Delos. The 149th host version of him was destroyed by Bernard and Elsie, but the shot of him in the promo proves his data profile still exists inside the Forge.

Dolores and Bernard will be uploading their consciousnesses into the Forge which is how they are able to interact with Logan. Even if Logan’s information isn’t used to make him a functioning host, his interactions with Dolores and Bernard should provide more insight into his mindset after his harrowing experiences with young William, eventually driving him to overdose.

Dolores, as she’s dressed in the present, sees a version of herself dressed as the rancher’s daughter in the Forge as well. This suggests that the Forge may contain programming and memories for not only the guests but for the hosts as well.

Death for the hosts was thought to be permanent after Angela destroyed the Cradle as it stored the only known backups for the hosts. That is no longer the case if the programming and memories of Dolores and the other hosts also exist in the Forge.

If this is the case, it will be intriguing to see if she still wants to destroy these backups as they are likely the only chance she has left of reviving Teddy now.

Dolores vs. William and Maeve vs. Clementine

The finale will feature two epic showdowns. The first showdown will be between Dolores and William. Former lovers and current enemies they may be, but a shot of the two of them riding side-by-side through the desert teases that they will create a temporary alliance. Both characters are in a similar place right now.

In their quests to find purpose, they’ve been cunning and ruthless. They’ve come so far, but along the way have lost everyone they cared about. In fact, they both just lost the individuals they cared about most, and the worst part is William and Dolores are the ones to blame for their losses.

Unless they want to try and use the data inside the Forge to resurrect their loved ones–Dolores to revive Teddy and William to create a host of Emily–both Dolores and William will still want to destroy the Forge. It is unlikely Dolores will take that course of action with Teddy, though.

In the promo, she says, “That which is real is irreplaceable.” In that sense, reviving Teddy would make him less real, and is just more of the same control that drove him to suicide in the first place.

Dolores and William’s common desire to complete their missions and destroy the Forge can serve as the foundation of their alliance.

Once the Forge is destroyed, though, Dolores and William will probably turn on one another, possibly at the moment where William points his revolver at her head in the promo. Fans got a taste of a showdown between them in the season 1 finale.

Dolores’ programming still prevented her from killing guests at that point and William was completely blindsided by her level of control. In the season 2 finale, both characters will be ready to face off with no holds barred.

The other major showdown will come in the form of Maeve and Clementine. Unlike Dolores and William, they don’t share a hateful past that’s been brewing to an explosive confrontation. They were actually quite close, even if they were programmed to be that way.

Maeve’s unique code to mentally communicate with and commands hosts is now uploaded into a Clementine under the control of Delos. Maeve still has her own code and with the mysterious but likely potent addition Ford’s consciousness made to it in the previous episode, Maeve will be more powerful than ever and the only one able to stop Clementine and Delos. Maeve will probably have to kill Clementine, a heartbreaking moment in a season already filled with tragedy.

Plenty more will occur in the season 2 finale, but what happens inside the Forge and with the Dolores-William and Maeve-Clementine showdowns will surely be some of the most important and epic moments.
