It all comes down to this. Tonight, on the season 2 finale of Westworld, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and the Man in Black (Ed Harris) are on course for an epic collision, as they both ride for the Valley Beyond, or the Door, or Glory, or whatever. We’ll finally see the end of Dr. Ford’s (Anthony Hopkins) game.
Other characters are on their way to the Door, too. Maeve (Thandie Newton) will try to find her daughter and Akecheta (Zahn McClarnon) before they reach it and leave the park forever. Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) is heading that way, too, only he has Dr. Ford tagging along as a passenger (hey, that’s the title) in his brain unit. And he calls the Door “the Forge,” because it doesn’t have enough names already.
The teaser trailer for tonight’s season finale shows Maeve and the gang reunited and fighting their way out of the Mesa, the Man in Black and Dolores exchanging scowls, and a surprise appearance by Logan (Ben Barnes), who’s escorting Bernard and Dolores through what looks like Arnold’s old house, or a simulation of it. If I were a betting man, I’d say they’re inside the Forge, and Logan is the curator.
For the last time this year, HBO released several advance photos ahead of tonight’s episode. Here’s Armistice (Ingrid Bolso Berdal) preparing for a fight:
When you find Armistice, Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) isn’t usually far behind.
Zahn McClarnon earned high praise for his performance as Akecheta in Episode 8, “Kiksuya.” In fact, Emmy Awards expert site GoldDerby thinks McClarnon could make history by becoming the first Native American ever to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. He’ll be in the mix tonight:
Bernard (or Ford?) is pensive, like usual:
The Man in Black seems to be in some sort of distress here. Well, he did drive his wife to suicide and then murder his daughter. Guy has a lot to answer for.
Finally, we have Dolores making her way to the “Valley Beyond” sans Teddy (James Marsden), who offed himself in last week’s episode. Dolores and the MiB really do belong together.
HBO has released a synopsis for the finale: “You live only as long as the last person who remembers you.” That’s something Akecheta whispered to Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) in Episode 204.
