Variety is reporting that Felicity and The Americans star Keri Russell is in early talks to join the cast of J.J. Abrams’ as-yet-subtitled Star Wars: Episode IX.  Russell and Abrams last worked together on Mission: Impossible III back in 2006. Russell is said to be eyeing a role that includes “action-heavy fight scenes,” something she’s no stranger to.

Abrams has reportedly been meeting with several actresses for the role over the past couple months, but decided that Russell was the one for the job right before July 4. If things work out, Russell could join sequel trilogy cast members Daisy Ridley (Rey), Oscar Isaacs (Poe Dameron) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), who are all expected to return for the final film.

Speaking of Episode IX, it has a new working title…well, working subtitle. Star Wars films have a long history of wacky working titles; for example, before release, the internal name for Return of the Jedi was Blue Harvest.

Fast forward several decades, and J.J. Abrams kicks off the sequel trilogy with The Force Awakens, which during production had a working title of Avco, the name of the theater where Abrams first saw Star Wars: A New HopeRogue One, about finding the plans to blow up the Death Star, had a working title of Los Alamos (the birthplace of the atomic bomb), and Solo: A Star Wars Story was simply called Red Cup, on account of the red plastic cup company of the same name.

Now, it appears that Episode IX has a new working title of trIXie. Up to now, it was known as Black Diamond, which is cooler but doesn’t have the number in the title. Life is full of trade-offs.

Star Wars: Episode IX — trIXie begins filming this month and will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
