Actor Laura Elphinstone to play a new character in Game of Thrones season 8
By Dan Selcke
Filming on the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones has wrapped, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still learn new stuff about it. For example, fansite Watchers on the Wall has discovered that English actor Laura Elphinstone will play a new character in season 8. Elphinstone’s agency page lists her as having worked with “various” directors, and tells us that her character’s name is “Nora.”
There are six episodes in the final season of Game of Thrones, with three directors to helm them. If Elphinstone is working with more than one, we can assume that she’s in at least two episodes. However, Watchers cautions that sometimes the phrase “Dir. Various” is used as a placeholder, and that Elphinstone may have only worked with one director. We only have to wait until 2019 to find out for sure.
As for the character of Nora, we’re guessing it’s a minor role; there’s no one by that name in the books, so far as we know. A citizen of King’s Landing? Someone living in the winter town outside Winterfell? The Night King’s wife? There’s no way of knowing…although it’s probably not that last one.
Elphinstone — who has a terrific name, by the way — is mostly a theater actress, although she’s had a few screen roles. That’s her as Crystal Williams in Call the Midwife above; she’s the one on the bed. (Check out her agency page for clips of her work.) Game of Thrones has long filled out its bit parts with sturdy, dependable acting professionals, and Elphinstone fits right into that tradition.
