There’s a lot of crossover between Game of Thrones and Doctor Who, with a ton of actors appearing on both shows, including Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), David Bradley (Walder Frey), Mark Gatiss (Tycho Nestoris), Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), Faye Marsay (The Waif), Julian Glover (Pycelle), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth), Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully), Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen) and more.
Whittaker will play the 13th regeneration of the Doctor, taking over the role from Peter Capaldi. We can’t tell a ton about what’s coming from this season based on the teaser, but it does offer a few tidbits. For example, the new Doctor likes eggs, delivers pizza and subscribes to The Beano.
The Doctor is a member of the humanoid “Time Lord” race from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor specifically is well known for traveling through space and time the TARDIS (an acronym for “Time And Relative Dimension In Space”), which is disguised as a blue police box. The Doctor can regenerate into new forms, which explains why so many actors have played the character, starting with William Hartnell in 1966. Fans already got a glimpse of Whittaker in the title role in the 2017 Christmas Special episode “Twice Upon a Time.” Thrones veteran David Bradley (Walder Frey) also appeared in the episode, playing the part of the original Doctor.
The new Doctor Who series is scheduled to feature prominently at San Diego Comic-Con this July (Whittaker is attending), and will air on the BBC later this year.
