Peter Dinklage to star in Rumpelstiltskin movie, and other cast member news

Filming on the final season of Game of Thrones is over, but the cast members are having no problem getting other gigs. For example, Variety reports that Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) is “attached” to star in and produce Sony’s Rumpelstiltskin.

Details on the movie have yet to be revealed, which is weird because the character famously appeared in the 1812 edition of Children’s and Household Tales from the Brothers Grimm, so who does Sony think it’s fooling?

In short, a miller tells a king his daughter can spin straw into gold (200-year-old spoiler alert: she can’t). The king summons her to his palace and locks her in a room filled with straw and a loom. He tells her to turn all the straw to gold or he’ll chop off her head. Then, the imp Rumpelstiltskin appears and completes the task for her. However, every time he does it, he exacts a bigger and bigger price, until finally he demands the girl’s firstborn child by the king, after they marry.

The girl refuses to hand the kid over, and Rumpelstiltskin agrees to let her off the hook if she can guess his name in three days time. After some detective work, the queen finds out the name and reveals it to Rumpelstiltskin, who gets so angry he stomps his right foot through the floor, and then he grabs his left foot and rips himself in two, so this should be a fun romantic comedy.

Moving on, Richard Madden (Robb Stark) will portray Elton John’s longtime manager John Reid in Rocketman, a biopic about the singer from Paramount Pictures.

Per Variety, Madden will be joined by Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot). Reid, who also managed rock group Queen, was Elton John’s manager from 1970 to 1998. For part of that time, he was also John’s lover. Their professional relationship ended after a leaked letter from John’s accountants exposed Reid’s spending habits, so there’s plenty of potential for drama here.

In other news, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane) has had enough of MMA star Conor McGregor’s mouth, and has challenged him to a fight. This story starts in 2015, when the two had a playful sparring session:

After this match, McGregor talked big at a press event: “That’s a big man. Six-foot-nine, four-hundred pound, and I still folded him up.”

Now, Björnsson tells On the Ball he’s ready for a rematch. “Bring me some shorts and put us in a cage, I’ll fight again,” Björnsson said. “At this moment I knew I could take him down, but I didn’t want to break him.” We’d advise McGregor not to accept the challenge, but then against, we’re still getting over what happened the last time the Mountain stepped into the ring with someone.

Speaking of all that, Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) is appearing in Patty Jenkins’ sequel to Wonder Woman, which is set in the ’80s. Enjoy a sneak peak courtesy of the director herself:
