Sorry Stranger Things fans; we won’t be returning to Hawkins, Indiana any time soon. Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, Netflix’s vice president of original content Cindy Holland confirmed that season 3 of the critically acclaimed drama would not return until the summer of 2019, per The Verge. Holland explained that the call was series creators Matt and Ross Duffer and Shawn Levy’s to make:
"They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so, they really want to take the time to get it right."
Holland assured TCA attendees that season 3 will be “worth the wait,” but that’s a long time before we can find out how things are going between Eleven and Will, or whether Sheriff Hopper ends up with Joyce, or if the entirety of Indiana will be sucked into a shadow hell beyond the veil of reality.
We do know that Steve has moved on from babysitting based on this hilarious teaser:
Holland also intimated that season 3 will have more extensive special effects than season 2, which could help explain the wait. Season 3 will have eight episodes, just like season 1.
As Game of Thrones fans, we can sympathize with a long wait. It’s even possible that the wait for Stranger Things season 3 could be longer than the one for Game of Thrones season 8. if Stranger Things airs late in the summer and Thrones early in the first half of 2019. We can all stick it out together.
