HBO celebrates Emmy nominations with marathons of Game of Thrones season 7, other shows
By Dan Selcke
Game of Thrones season 7 is up for a whole lotta Emmy Awards this year — 22, to be exact, more than any other show in contention. HBO did well as a whole, with 108 nominations to its name. The second season of Westworld was just behind Thrones with 21 nods, while the inaugural season of pitch-black comedy Barry (which is really good and I recommend you check out if you haven’t) nabbed 13. HBO didn’t get quite as many nominations as Netflix, which is up for 112 statues, but still: good show.
And if HBO can’t beat Netflix for nominations, it’s at least hoping to beat it for wins. To that end, the network is airing marathons of its nominated shows, movies and documentaries across of variety of its channels during the Emmy voting period, just in case committee members wanted a reminder of why they should vote for HBO. And if viewers get to take in some great television in the meantime, all the better.
Here’s HBO’s lineup:
- August 10: The documentary Spielberg on HBO Signature at 8:00 p.m.
- August 11: Barry season 1 on HBO2, starting at 3:00 p.m.
- August 12: Curb Your Enthusiasm season 9 on HBO Comedy, starting at 6:00 p.m.
- August 14: The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling on HBO Signature at 8:00 p.m.
- August 16: The Tale on HBO at 10:00 p.m.
- August 18: Westworld season 2 on HBO2, starting at 10:00 a.m.
- August 21: The Defiant Ones on HBO2 at 9:00 p.m.
- August 25: Game of Thrones season 7 on HBO2, starting at noon
If you no longer do primitive stuff like watch television as it airs, HBO has created a “HBO’s 2018 Emmy nominees” folder in both HBO GO and HBO NOW, the network’s streaming apps. Click in and see everything up for a statue this year. Watch them all, so you can react appropriately when they win or lose during the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 17. It airs on NBC.
