Doctor Who: Series Eleven: Spoilers (and why we won’t be covering them)

facebooktwitterreddit

There are a lot of leaks coming out about Series Eleven of Doctor Who. So it’s fair that we warn you now: don’t expect us to cover them too much at Doctor Who Watch.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to be a spoiler-free Doctor Who fan. As one of the biggest shows in the world, there’s always a lot of scrutiny on the show. So it’s easy for things to leak out, and an absolute nightmare for everyone working on the show to stop that from happening.

Chris Chibnall and his team are trying really hard to keep leaks to an absolute minimum. Especially after footage was leaked a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, Doctor Who is still suffering from major leaks.

Most recently, an image of the new TARDIS interior has made its way to social media. You can find a description of it, if not the image itself, right here. But so far, it’s something that I’ve avoided, and as far as Doctor Who Watch is concerned, I plan on keeping it that way.

The right time for spoilers

I know how big spoilers are. And I’m not completely against them myself, either. There are a ton of major twists in various films and TV shows that I already know about in advance of actually watching them. Spoilers easily spread.

But I’d also prefer to know about a spoiler after the show or film has been broadcast. And I’d also like some fair warning about it, too. As I’m sure many of you readers would, also.

And while checking these spoilers out and reporting on them would provide us with some easy articles, the fact is that, as a Whovian, I want to be surprised. Sure, it’s good to be teased and speculate at hints of what’s coming. But you still don’t want to be completely spoiled on major plot points.

With a new series just a matter of months away, what can we expect from Jodie Whittaker’s first series as the Thirteenth Doctor?

Respecting the show

It’s also clear that Chris Chibnall wants to keep key details for the show as quiet as possible. Just a matter of months away from broadcast, and we still don’t know that much about the series.

More from Winter is Coming

It’s kind of surprising, but I actually like that we’re left to guess and anticipate key details.

For that reason, while I’m sure there’ll be one or two more major leaks over the coming months, at Doctor Who Watch, we’re aiming not to cover them. We’ll be covering plenty of spoilers from before Series Eleven, as well as from various Doctor Who spin-off series, including Torchwood. But we won’t be discussing anything that the current production team would prefer to be left under wraps.

After all, it’s just a couple of months away from broadcast. And I think a lot of us are keen to be surprised by Jodie Whittaker’s first series in the role.
