The Venture Brothers is one of the weirdest shows on TV today, and that’s a good thing. Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer’s odyssey about an emotionally stunted super-scientist and his ever expanding gang of family and friends is hard to categorize, but a delight to watch. The show is back for a seventh season, and it’s more serialized than ever before. Here’s the trailer for the next chunk of episodes:

We’re coming up on the second episode of the season, “The Rorqual Affair.” (A rorqual is a kind of whale, by the way. This show loves its esoteric references.) Here’s Adult Swim’s official description:

"Deadly waters surround the Monarch in “The Rorqual Affair.”"

As we saw at the end of “The Venture Bros. & The Curse of the Haunted Problem,” the Monarch, in his guise as the supervillain-murdering Blue Morpho, has fallen into the clutches (fins?) of mob boss Wide Whale. Meanwhile, across the street, the digital ghost of Jonas Venture is wrecking havoc at the Venture Compound. The plot is getting extremely thick, and with this show, you never know if it’s going to thin out or get even more complicated.
