HBO will soon be available in the Baltic Republics

Good news for Game of Thrones fans living in the Baltic republics of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania: HBO will make itself available there starting August 21, on cable TV, interactive TV and mobile devices and smart TV, according to Broadband TV News. Welcome to the Game of Thrones; you’re gonna love it.

In Latvia, HBO will be made available through Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT) and internet service provider/telecommunications company/electricity provider Lattelecom. In that region, new episodes of HBO shows will premiere no later than 24 hours after they’ve aired in the US. All shows will be subtitled in Latvian and have both Latvian and Russian-language audio options. Lattelecom is also offering HBO through a shortcut app on its interactive television service Helio TV.

CEO for HBO Europe Herve Payan sounded pleased. “Thanks to the very successful cooperation with local partners, we are pleased to offer our extensive portfolio of content library and brand new HBO serials to our many fans of the high-end television programmes in Latvia, the Lattelecom and LMT platforms.” Lattelecom CEO Juris Gulbis was right there with him:

"HBO is a brand that is appreciated by millions of people around the world, and its arrival in Latvia is a great benefit for anyone enjoying high-quality content. HBO’s world-famous serials have been available only in TV channel programmes until now, and everyone will be able to watch them later. when and wherever it wants."

Meanwhile, viewers in Estonia and Lithuania will get their HBO fix exclusively from Swedish provider Telia, which owns a 49% stake in Lattelecom. It’s all a knotty, but the upshot is that more people will soon have an easier time watching Game of Thrones, which can only be a good thing.
