Star Wars legend Mark Hamill joins the cast of History’s “Knightfall”

The first season of Knightfall was awful. When History announced it was going to produce a series about the legendary order of the Knights Templar and its search for the Holy Grail, I was excited. I’m a huge fan of the network’s other period show, Vikings, and was looking for something to fill the void after Game of Thrones season 7 ended.

And then Knightfall premiered in December of 2017 and everything fell apart. They shot close-ups of the characters’ faces behind their great helms during battle scenes, the storylines meandered all over the place…the show was simply not good.

That’s why I rolled my eyes when Variety reported that History had renewed Knightfall for a second season. Then I learned that Star Wars icon Mark Hamill was joining the cast.

Hamill will play Talus, a “battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades who survived captivity for ten years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order.” It basically sounds like he’ll reprise the crotchety old man version of Luke Skywaler he played in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a warrior monk tasked with training up new Jedi Knights Templar. Why fix what’s not broken?

Can Hamill save a failing series that should have been canceled halfway through its first season? More importantly, if Hamill is going to be shooting Knightfall season 2, can he still show up as a Force ghost in Star Wars: Episode IX? If not, I’m sure it’s somehow all Rian Johnson’s fault.
