Disney has released the very first trailer for its new anime-styled animated series, Star Wars Resistance. The show takes place just before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and will see a few familiar characters mixed in with all new faces. Check it out:

Resistance will focus on a young pilot named Kazuda Xiono. He’s been assigned to the Colossus, “a massive refueling platform on an outer rim ocean planet.” Star Wars actors Oscar Isaacs (Poe Dameron) and Game of Thrones‘ own Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) will voice the characters they made popular on the big screen. Roly-poly robot BB-8 will be there as well, making beeping and whirring noises.

StarWars.com has the synopsis for the first episode, “The Recruit”:

"Poe and BB-8 assign Kaz to the Colossus, where he meets a cast of colorful new aliens, droids and creatures. While undercover to spy on the growing threat of the First Order, Kaz works as a mechanic and lives with Poe’s old friend Yeager — a veteran pilot who operates a starship repair shop run by his crew: Tam, Neeku and a battered old astromech called Bucket."

Sounds fun! I’m pleasantly surprised to see Disney has an all-new Star Wars animated series ready to go so quickly after the series finale of Star Wars Rebels in 2017. With the news that it was bringing back Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I didn’t expect the Mouse to premiere Resistance until the middle of 2019, closer to when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters.

Star Wars Resistance premieres Sunday, October 7 at 10 p.m. EST on the Disney Channel.

Next. Robot cast as lead actor in new movie; rise of the machines to follow. dark
