The creators of Westworld divulged some juicy information–season 3 was planned since the pilot!
Westworld fans, that’s right! Season 3 was a plan the creators of the series had since the pilot episode. Even though season 2 was quite confusing, for the cast and fans alike, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy Nolan have had a plan in mind for where the series is going, according to Digital Spy.
Given that they’ve been prepared for this season for quite a long time, it’s safe to assume things are going to get crazier, more complicated, and convoluted when season 3 premieres. According to Joy, season 3 will be “our biggest undertaking yet”.

When the creators were writing the pilot, a big topic of conversation was the storyline for season 3. It’s pretty difficult to fathom that they planned out so far ahead in the story given how much has unfolded since the series first premiered.
This is a place they have been anticipating to get to, and now that they’re here, it’s game on! Season 2 was a whirlwind journey as we saw the characters navigate through the concept of the Forge, move on to the Sublime, and also watched Bernard’s multiple timelines.
It was quite the adventure, and while we still may not understand what it all means, it will be interesting to see where season 3 picks up. Given that Bernard, Dolores, and a clone in the form of Charlotte Hale are now out in the “real world”, anything is possible.
Nolan and Joy have alluded to season 3 being a radical shift, and it seems like the year ahead will be writing and bringing together the story elements that will bring that shift.
"“I think what’s fun for us about this is discovering this world could be kind of extraordinary like this. And an opportunity — you know, if the show has spoken metaphorically about ‘our world’ at this point, then the opportunity to visit ‘our world’ is very exciting for us on both a character level and a story level.”"
There is no date set for the start of season 3 production as of yet, and it’s safe to assume we have quite the wait ahead of us. So until then keep coming up with theories, binge-watch the first two seasons, and catch up on all things Westworld on our site!
