Take the Black Live: How Game of Thrones affects A Song of Ice and Fire, and vice versa

It’s time for Take the Black Live, the show where Culturess editor Cheryl Wassenaar and I talk all things Game of Thrones. Today’s episode is all about George R.R. Martin: the man, the myth, the beard.

The Take the Black Podcast is now on iTunes, and Google Play! Please subscribe and download from there if you can. Also, you can help us out by giving us a five-star rating and leaving a friendly comment! We’re also now on Spreaker, so try us there, as well.

Our topics:

  • Martin made a rare public appearance just lately and dropped all kinds of interesting tidbits. First up, he stated pretty baldly that the Song of Ice and Fire books are not going to take cues from HBO’s Game of Thrones. In fact, some characters who have already died in the show will never die in the books. Which characters do we think he’s talking about?
  • Will Cersei blow up the Sept of Baelor in the books? It’s a great sequence on Game of Thrones, but I have my doubts we’ll see it in print.
  • George R.R. Martin announces that he’s still working on The Winds of Winter. Nothing to see here.
  • Martin said he assumed he would have a couple more years to write The Winds of Winter before HBO caught up to him. Was he fooling himself? Was there ever a world where HBO would have adapted every detail from A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons?

Today’s episode is a little quicker than usual, but we’ll be back to our old long-winded selves next week. See you at 4:00 p.m. CST during the live stream on our Facebook page! Join the cluster-chat.
