Westworld: Dolores’ robot revolution and more in season 3
By Ariba Bhuvad
Westworld season 3 is a far-fetched dream and given the whirlwind second season, there is much to be speculated about what’s to come.
Westworld season 2 threw fans for a loop with a convoluted storyline, multiple timelines, and the quest to make it to the Valley Beyond. Now, we have quite the wait ahead of us until season 3 returns but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to ponder on what is yet to come.
If I’m being honest, Westworld season 2 was quite confusing and the story for season 3 is quite the mystery that I’m not sure will be solved even when the series returns. Now, we’ve lost many, many major characters and ventured outside the walls of Westworld. So, where will the creators go from here? Will it be a reboot of sorts?
There were 19 main characters when season 2 began, but by the finale, there were only 5 left–Charlotte (whoever is in her host body), Dolores, Bernard, William, and possibly a host Stubbs. Basically, everyone else is “dead” including Maeve and Teddy but given that it is Westworld, I’m sure we’ll see some of them return in season 3.
While we have no idea when season 3 will premiere, let’s dive into some ideas that Bustle came up with for what we may see when Westworld returns!
Season 3 may take the plot of Futureworld
Season 2 revealed that Delos was dabbling with human consciousness, which led fans to speculate if Westworld was adapting the story of Futureworld, the 1976 sequel of the original movie. For those that did not watch the movie version, Delos made copies of world leaders so they could take over the world using robot technology.
According to Bustle, season 3 could still adapt this story but with a twist–instead of Delos, it may be Dolores that makes plans to take over the world. Wouldn’t that be something?
Logan is one of the five pearls Dolores took off the island
In the season 2 finale of Westworld, Halores took five pearls of consciousness with her when she ventured towards the mainland. There was no revelation alluding to who was within each pearl, but the possibilities are endless. We do know that one of the pearls was Dolores, but there are still four unaccounted for.
One idea is that of the four remaining one of them could be Logan. Many Reddit theories have been discussing that Ford and William were two of the pearls but as Bustle reminded us–human pearls are red and host pearls are black. Another Redditor theorized that one of the pearls could be the Forge’s system administrator that we saw in the form of Logan.
This theory makes quite a bit of sense given that Dolores wants as much control as possible, so what better way than to go straight to the source. This would give her the understanding of how to copy the minds, and then, of course, we’d get some more Ben Barnes this way too.
Maeve will return and escape with the help of Felix and Sylvester
It would be shocking if Westworld didn’t find a way to bring back the magnificent Maeve in season 3. She’s such a pivotal part of the story, so I’d like to say it’s safe to assume she will be back. But how exactly?
In the season 2 finale, Felix and Sylvester were asked to gather the dead host bodies and the camera pans across the bodies of Armistice, Hector, and Maeve. I think Bustle is onto something here because there needs to be a connection that remains between Westworld and the story that will be taking place on the mainland with Dolores and co.
And perhaps along the way, Maeve will come across the other parks which we have yet to see–seriously, where are they!
William will be used to stop Dolores
Interesting thought, right? Based on the post-credits scene from the season 2 finale, it seems like William is now a host on a repeating traumatic loop much like James Delos earlier in the season. The season didn’t actually tell us much or explain what is going to happen but it did spark some intrigue for the fans.
Who actually turned William into this state? It could be Dolores but it’s more likely to be someone else entirely–someone that will really throw a wrench into all this madness. According to Bustle, it could have been Bernard that has William on a constant loop until he perfects a version of the Man in Black that can eventually stop Dolores.
