Fall is almost upon us, which means crisp cool days, trees alive with color, and a new slate of movies. Before every season, Fandango asks theater-goers which films they’re most anticipating, and the fall 2018 lists are out. Several genre movies cracked the top five, but the top dog is Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Most Anticipated Fall Movies

  1. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (November 16)
  2. Bohemian Rhapsody (November 2)
  3. Venom (October 5)
  4. Ralph Breaks the Internet (November 21)
  5. A Star is Born (October 5)

Of all the films on that list, Fantastic Beasts may have had the roughest road; the first movie was successful but didn’t set the world on fire, and the sequel has been dogged by controversy ever since fans learned that Johnny Depp, whose ex-wife Amber Heard has accused him of abusive behavior, will play the titular villain. But still, the Harry Potter connection counts for a lot. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling even wrote the screenplay, and her fans are nothing if not dedicated.

Fantastic Beasts also tops the list of Most Anticipated Fall Family Films, although star Eddie Redmayne is a couple notches down the list of Most Anticipated Fall Actors:

  1. Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)
  2. Tom Hardy (Venom)
  3. Eddie Redmayne (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald)
  4. Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born)
  5. Michael B. Jordan (Creed II)

There’s also some genre fare among the list of Most Anticipated Fall Actresses, although Lady Gaga takes the top spot for the musical drama A Star Is Born.

  1. Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born)
  2. Cate Blanchett (The House with a Clock in Its Walls)
  3. Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween)
  4. Keira Knightley (Colette, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms)
  5. Claire Foy (The Girl in the Spider’s Web, First Man)

Fall is also the time for Halloween, so naturally there’s a list of Most Anticipated Fall Horror Movies:

  1. Halloween (October 19)
  2. The Predator (September 14)
  3. The Nun (September 7)
  4. Suspiria (November 2)
  5. Overlord (November 9)

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald drops November 16.
