A Song of Ice and Fire fan Sean Shepard was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer named Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma. With help from his friend Shawn Speakman, the editorial director of Grim Oak Press, he’s now auctioning it off on Ebay so he can pay for further treatment.

The auction winner will also get a variant of Dynamite’s A Game of Thrones #3 comic bookand a copy A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms donated by Subterranean Press, both of them also signed by Martin.

The copy of A Game of Thrones is an Advanced Reading Copy, or ARC. For those unfamiliar, ARCs are copies of a completed novel sent to reviewers and book-sellers. Oftentimes, they contain differences from the final copy. This particular copy of A Game of Thrones was distributed at the American Booksellers Association’s 1996 Expo, held over a month before A Game of Thrones hit store shelves.

Currently, bidding has exceeded two thousand dollars. The auction is set to end this Sunday at 9:00 p.m. CST. You can bid here.

It’s great to see fans coming together like this for a good cause! For those who simply want to donate, this GoFundMe page is available.
