21) BERIC DONDARRION (Previous Ranking: Unranked)

Category: Warrior Priest

Beric Dondarrion dies a lot. His first several deaths occurred offscreen, after Lord Eddard Stark sent him to bring the Mountain to justice. Instead, the Mountain ran him through with a spear at the Battle at the Mummer’s Ford. Beric’s dear friend, the drunken Red Priest Thoros of Myr, resurrected Beric by uttering a simple prayer over his body, surprising everyone, including himself. Beric has been reanimated six times in all, each time a little worse for wear. With Thoros killed by a dead polar bear, he’s now on his last life.

Despite his many losses, Beric is a formidable opponent with courage, purpose and a flaming sword. He lost to the Hound in single combat, but held his own just fine, which counts for something.

We last saw Beric in “The Dragon and the Wolf” (S7/Ep7), when he witnessed the Night King and Viserion take down the Wall. Assuming he and Tormund Giantsbane survived this catastrophe, he’s essentially on his seventh life, and that is a magical number in Westeros.
