Later this month, Game of Thrones fans will gather at Castle Ward in Northern Ireland for the 2018 Winterfell Festival, where they’ll be able to learn to shoot bows-and-arrow, watch real life jousting and sword fights, take in reenactments of scenes from A Song of Ice and Fire, and now, greet their king, Robert Baratheon, who will be there in the flesh.
Kind of. The National Trust, which is organizing the event, has announced that Mark Addy, who played King Robert on the show’s first season, will be in attendance. He’ll be part of “two intimate Q&A sessions” with attendees.
If the National Trust really wants to kick the festival into overdrive, it’ll have Addy don a costume and oversees the jousts in character; I’m just saying.
Castle Ward is an actual Game of Thrones filming location, used to shoot scenes at Winterfell, among other things. Fans can see where Jaime pushed Bran out a window, and where Robb captured the Kingslayer at the Battle of the Whispering Wood. And also Northern Inuit Dogs Odin and Thor, who played Grey Wind and Summer, will be there, for petting and photos.
The 2018 Winterfell Festival goes down on September 16. You can buy tickets here. Tickets for Mark Addy’s Q&A sessions go on sale tomorrow.
