The news you’ve been waiting for has finally been officially announced! Doctor Who will at last return on Sunday 7th October!
We’ve been waiting a long time for this news, ever since we saw Jodie Whittaker’s fall from the TARDIS at the end of Twice Upon a Time. We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about when Series Eleven of Doctor Who would begin, but no concrete answers. We knew it was going to be “Fall 2018”, but that was virtually it.
However, now, we don’t need to guess or speculate any longer. The BBC have officially announced the global premiere date for Series Eleven as Sunday October 7th.
They’ve made sure that the news is being spread far and wide, too. Across Facebook, Twitter and other social media, the announcement has been made. After months of keeping quiet, the BBC is finally letting us know when we can look forward to brand new Doctor Who, in a big way.

One thing that you may have noticed is the new day for the show. For over a decade, with the exception of some of the specials, the New Series has usually been broadcast on Saturdays. This was actually something that was pretty important to the Classic Series, too, as Doctor Who was broadcast for most of the series on a Saturday.
But this is to change. For the first time since the series came back, the series will now be regularly broadcast on a Sunday. This is something that’s been rumored about for a while, so I’m not surprised by this news.
Still, while I’m glad to see that the show will still be broadcast during the weekend, I must admit: I am a little sad that it’s no longer on Saturdays. Doctor Who and Saturdays are like chocolate and peanut butter. You can certainly enjoy them separately, but it’s usually even better when together. (Well, in this Whovian/food lover’s opinion, of course.)
Still, this is just my tiny complaint. New showrunner Chris Chibnall seems confidant that the move to Sundays will work in the show’s favor, at least.
"New Doctor, new home! Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor is about to burst into Sunday nights – and make the end of the weekend so much more exciting. Get everybody’s homework done, sort out your Monday clothes, then grab some special Sunday night popcorn, and settle down with all of the family for Sunday night adventures across space and time. (Also, move the sofa away from the wall so parents can hide behind it during the scary bits). The Thirteenth Doctor is falling from the sky and it’s going to be a blast."
I’m sure he’s right that we’ll have much to look forward to. I know I’m already excited to see the start of a brand new era.
The Woman Who Fell to Earth, the first episode of Series Eleven, will broadcast globally on October 7th.
