Ever since Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen got it on during the season 7 finale “The Dragon and the Wolf,” Game of Thrones fans have had nothing but questions. How awkward will it be when the happy couple finds out they’re related? Where does Jon work out? Why was Tyrion lurking outside the door like a crazy ex-boyfriend? Thankfully Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) is here to help us with that last question, revealing his character’s thoughts to Entertainment Weekly.
"No, ah, it’s complicated… A lot of the time with Tyrion, it’s professional and personal. Obviously, he has feelings for Daenerys. He loves her — or thinks he does. She’s awe-inspiring. He’s questioning that because he doesn’t have a good track record for falling in love. There’s jealousy wrapped up in there."
Maybe Tyrion and Jorah can form their own lonely hearts club? Hopefully, Jon isn’t the braggart Daario Naharis was about “riding the dragon.” Either way, Tyrion doesn’t have the best track record with love, so it’d be natural for him to question his feelings for Dany. At least he wasn’t spying for Cersei like many of us assumed.
Dinklage also revealed that it’s not all bad feelings toward Jon, because “he loves Jon Snow, too. They’re the two people he has the most in common with, in a way.” Dinklage is probably more on point than he realizes, as all three of the characters share the common thread that each of their mother’s died during childbirth.
“They’re both outsiders in their own families who have refused to follow the path their family has taken, and hopefully for the better,” Dinklage continued. Looks like Tyrion’s still “breaking the wheel,” and all that jazz.
Of course, Tyrion has always been a pragmatist at heart, leading to his major concern.
"He’s wondering how smart of a move [Jon and Dany getting romantically involved is], because passion and politics don’t mix well. He knows the two of them getting together could be very dangerous."
Dangerous, and seriously awkward come the holidays, once Jon and Dany realize they’re related. We’ll just have to wait until season 8 to find out how all that pans out.
