Kit Harington explains why he’s still sporting his Game of Thrones hair
By Corey Smith
Few inanimate objects on Game of Thrones receive the attention and accolades of Jon Snow actor Kit Harington’s hair. From watching it get shorn in the series premiere episode “Winter is Coming,” to watching it lustrously grow over the ensuing years, to its present incarnation as a top knot that would make even the staunchest Samurai proud, Jon’s hair has kept us warm through many a cold night.
As you can imagine, our hearts sank when we learned that Harington intended to trim his gorgeously luxurious locks once filming on season 8 was finished. But wait, there might still be hope, because even after filming for Game of Thrones has wrapped forever, Harington explained to Entertainment Weekly there is a good reason he has yet to take a pair of scissors to those spellbinding curls.
"We just finished filming. You can’t tell because I look exactly the same. They own me; they’ve just kept me like this."
Why might HBO want Harington to keep his flowing locks? The actor explained he is waiting for a green light on the haircut, in case production decides re-shoots are needed for the show’s final season. If those re-shoots are necessary, Harington clarified that they most likely would be a for a special effects shot.
Either way, he revealed we might not want him to cut or shave his hair. “When I shave, I look like a tired child.” Oh, I need this in my life…like, right now.
You can watch the full interview below, where Harington reveals other tidbits, including his love of J.K. Rowling’s world of wizardry, “I always wanted to be in a Potter movie,” Harington says. “I always wanted to be Harry Potter.”
That sounds like something onscreen best friend Samwell Tarly would say. Season 8 of Game of Thrones debuts some time in the first half of 2019.
