Henry Cavill will no longer be Superman
Henry Cavill and Warner Bros. studios have parted ways, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which means the actor will no longer be Superman. Apparently, things went sideways when the studio tried to get Cavill to make a cameo in its new Shazam! film starring Zachary Levi in the titular role, but the contract negotiations broke down.

With Cavill hanging up the red cape, it appears as if Warner Bros. is pushing fully forward with its Supergirl origins story, which will focus on a teenage version of the hero. Cavill, who played Superman through three DC films: Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League, has signed on to play the lead character of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the popular Witcher series, so he’s already got work lined up.
For its part, Warner Bros. doesn’t seem too concerned about the breakup, with one studio source telling THR that the role of Superman “is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors.” Cavill isn’t the only big name leaving the DCCU, as Ben Affleck is reportedly out as Batman, as well. In fact, there are actually rumors that Game of Thrones star Kit Harington (Jon Snow) has been considered for the role of a young Bruce Wayne.
If Harington were to land that role, he would be following in the footsteps of former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) in making the leap from television to a huge big budget studio film.

While Momoa’s solo Aquaman film, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984, and Ezra Miller’s solo Flash movie are still on the slate, THR’s studio source says Warner Bros. has realized “that some parts of the previous movies didn’t work,” and that could mean yet another set back for DC in its race against the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
