Bosnia and Herzegovina: Theon Greyjoy

I said it about Jaime Lannister and I’ll say it here: everyone likes a good comeback story. Theon Greyjoy went to the dark side in season 2 when he betrayed Robb Stark and took Winterfell. He’s been crawling his back to the light ever since, more painful step at a time. In season 7, he had his most heroic moment yet when he decided to lead an expedition to save his sister Yara from the clutches of Euron Greyjoy, even though the odds are long.

Much like Theon, the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina is still in the middle of its own comeback. During the second World War, most of the country’s capital, Sarajevo, was destroyed. Even today, you can still find shrapnel embedded in city walls. However, Sarajevo has pushed past this tragedy to become a vibrant, booming city once more.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has clearly been shaped by the horrors of war, but today it’s actually a hotspot for adventurers. There’s a ton of hiking, rafting, and other outdoor sports to be enjoyed there. Theon has also seen more than his share of adventure in life, although he wishes he could have avoided much of it. Maybe he’d understand the citizens here a little better than others.
