Austria: Jojen Reed

I’ll admit: I was sorely tempted to pair Austria with Ed Sheeran, who had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the seventh season, but I’ll spare you. Still, it’s hard to ignore this country’s strong ties to music. Not only is The Sound of Music set in this country, Austria is also home to a massive music festival and the birthplace of more than a few famous composers. Instead, I opted to focus on Austria’s history with the sciences.

It was here that the thought experiment Schrödinger’s Cat was first conceived of by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger. As The Big Bang Theory reminds its viewers over and over again, this experiment describes a scenario in which two situations are simultaneously possible. While greenseer Jojen Reed doesn’t see different possible futures, he does gets blips of what will definitely come to pass.

Austria is also the birthplace of the renowned founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. Freud had strong opinions about how mankind worked, some of which are still hotly controversial today. Like Freud, Jojen doesn’t hold back with his unconventional opinions and is smart enough that it’s hard to question him. If he believes something is the right or wrong course of action, he lets Bran know, even if the advice doesn’t go over so well. Take, for instance, when Bran was constantly warging into Summer and Jojen had to remind him of the dangers of becoming too attached to that other life.
