Game of Thrones wins Outstanding Drama Series at the 2018 Emmys!

For the third season in a row, Game of Thrones took home the top award of the night at the Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Drama Series. Congratulations! Watch showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss and executive producer Bernadette Caulfield give their acceptance speech below, flanked by members of the cast and crew, plus George R.R. Martin himself!

Game of Thrones won this award after season 5. It won it after season 6, and now it’s won it after season 7. At this point, if the show didn’t win best drama for season 8 at the 2019 Emmys, it would be a grave snub. But I don’t think there’s any danger of that.

Game of Thrones didn’t clean up quite as thoroughly at this Emmys as it did at the last couple where it was eligible. Adding up its wins from last week’s Creative Arts Emmys, it took home a total of nine statues. Don’t get me wrong: that’s still mighty impressive, but shy of the 12 each it won after seasons 5 and 6. Still, Peter Dinklage took home a third award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama, and something tells me that the show will be drowning in gold come this time next year.
