It’s time for the Primetime Emmys, that one magical night every year when TV’s biggest and brightest get together to hand each other little golden statues for a job well done. After taking the year off in 2017, Game of Thrones returns with a vengeance, nominated for 22 awards, more than any other show. It already won seven awards at the Creative Arts Emmys last week. Will it continue its reign as Emmy darling tonight?

Maybe. Before we get to that, some of the stars have already tromped the red carpet. Let’s take a look, starting with the Mother of Dragons herself, wearing neutral tones:

And where Daenerys Targaryen goes, so go (the woman who plays her) most loyal follower: Nathalie Emmanuel, looking elegant in a simple strapless black number with a train.

Kit Harington is on the scene, too, sporting a sharp suit and Jon Snow hair that refuses to go away:

Fashion icon Gwendoline Christie, doing her fashion icon thing:

If you’ve ever wondered whether there’s a Game of Thrones cast member group text, Christie is here to fill you in:

I love Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s mustard jacket. You do you, Kingslayer.

Coster-Waldau is one of three Lannister siblings nominated for an Emmy tonight. Lena Headey (Cersei) isn’t in attendance, but Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) is present and accounted for, with wife Erica Schmidt.

Even George R.R. Martin is here, wearing pinstripes and a kicky turtle pin:

Does he like his chances?

Who will win? Who will lose? We’ll update the post as the evening goes on!

First up, we have Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. And the winner is…

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

  • The Crown, Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
  • Game Of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister
  • Game Of Thrones, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister
  • The Handmaid’s Tale, Joseph Fiennes as Commander Waterford
  • Homeland, Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson
  • Stranger Things, David Harbour as Jim Hopper

…Peter Dinklage, aka Tyrion Lannister, taking his third win for the role!

Color me surprised. I thought Coster-Waldau would snag this one. But we can’t begrudge him more success. Congratulations, Peter! Looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table in season 8.

Lena Headey was once again passed over for her work as Cersei, but Thandie Newton did do a terrific job as Maeve on Westworld, and gave a passionate speech. Congrats!
