Westworld as a series along with its cast is up against some tough contenders this year at the Emmys, but we are wondering–could this be Thandie Newton’s year?

Westworld is up for 21 nominations across the board and amongst each category are the best of the best which makes us really contemplate who will take home an Emmy at the end of the night. Last year, Thandie Newton was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and this year she landed the same nomination.

Last year, Ann Dowd won the Emmy in this category, but could this year be Newton’s? Along with Dowd, Newton is also up against Millie Bobby Brown, Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Lena Headey, and Vanessa Kirby. Looking at all the names above, this category is so incredibly talented and amazing that it’s honestly anyone’s game.

Newton submitted “Akane No Mai’ as her Emmy episode, and we are so glad she did! She seriously kicked some ass in Shogun World, and there isn’t any other episode that would be as fitting as this one. This season, Newton took part in a lot of action, tedious character nuances, and possessed so much strength as an actress.

We couldn’t take our eyes off the screen whenever she was on, and watching her bring life to Maeve this season was quite the exhilarating journey. It’s clear that Newton has a lot of competition to deal with, and given that everyone put forth their best this last year, it’s hard to imagine or predict who will win in the end. Honestly, this group of women is so inspiring that we’d celebrate any one of them!
