Watch a new trailer for Doctor Who season 11, with Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor

The new season of Doctor Who drops on October 7. This is the big year for the long-running franchise (revival). Who writer Chris Chibnall is replacing Steven Moffat as showrunner, and Jodie Whittaker will make her debut as the first woman to play the Doctor. If you ask me, the show could benefit from some new blood and new ideas, so I’m all for these changes.

As the drop date approaches, the BBC has released a new trailer. Have a watch:

“It’s about time.” Geddit? Many levels.

As The Verge observes, the teaser makes it look like we’re in for a lighter show, figuratively and literally; even the photography seems a little brighter. Also, the trailer didn’t have any teases for classic Doctor Who villains like the Daleks and Cybermen, which were on the verge of overuse. I’d be pleased if the new season confined itself to new stories.

We’ll see whether Whittaker and Chibnall have what it takes to inject new life into the series soon enough.
