A Song of Dan and Josh: Arya V (A Game of Thrones)
By Dan Selcke
It’s time for another episode of A Song of Dan and Josh, the show where myself and Josh Hill of FanSided go through every chapter of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire in an attempt to pick it apart and discover what makes it so damn great.

This week, we talk through quite possibly the most important chapter in the entirety of the saga: Arya V from A Game of Thrones, aka the one where Ned dies. We hit the tragedies great and small. Why did Martin choose to depict this key event from Arya’s perspective? How does her survivability on the streets of King’s Landing foreshadow her journey later down the line? Why is the moment of Ned’s death itself so underplayed? Or is it? How does Martin set up this scene, linguistically and tonally? We come at it from every angle, because a chapter this big deserves it.
Josh and I will be off next week, but we’ll be back on Wednesday, October 3 to follow up on this seismic event with Bran VII. We’ll be streaming our discussion live at 4:00 p.m. on our Facebook page. Join in!
