Okay, Game of Thrones fans, we’re starting to get a little worried about the series finale. First, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) gave this ominous tease: “I think not everyone’s going to be happy, you know, and you can’t please everyone.” Then it was Iain Glen’s (Jorah) turn: “The bottom line is I’m sure we’ll not please everyone across the board.” And now, speaking to IGN, Sophie Turner revealed her reaction to reading the finale script.
"A lot of tears. I think, you know, as an actor it was really satisfying — I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines — to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us. Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon, I think. I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking to read at the very final page of the script it just says, ‘End of Game of Thrones’. That was really emotional."
Whoa there, Turner; way to give away the last words of the script. Can’t we get a spoiler alert?
Anyway, does this feel like the cast is softening us up for an especially painful final episode? Not for the first time, 2019 seems an eternity away.
Turner also described Sansa’s season 8 journey, in broad strokes, of course:
"She kind of takes ownership over who she is and what she stands for. Over the course of the series she’s been completely unaware of what she wants, where she wants to be, who she really is, and at the end of this season, I feel she is the most self-assured character in the show."
Sounds like a worthy ending, although it’ll be hard to say goodbye to the character. Turner agrees, and describes saying farewell to Sansa and the show as “really bittersweet.”
Speaking of endings, Turner may also make her final appearance as Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix. A new trailer dropped just yesterday:
Disney recently acquired Fox’s entertainment assets, including the X-Men franchise, so its future is up in the air. But Turner isn’t worried. “I approach every project as if it’s my last just in case because I don’t want to be let down. But I think with the ending of this story there’s always room to do more X-Men.”
"I’m really excited to be able to have — every year I would kind of plan out six, seven, eight months of my time to be like, I dedicated that towards X-Men or towards Game of Thrones and now I have all this sort of freed up time to do kind of different projects that would normally shoot over the time that either X-Men or Game of Thrones would shoot. It’s really exciting. I see a lot of opportunities and getting a ton more scripts, which is just like fueling my passion so I’m excited but, of course, it’s hard to say goodbye. Especially to Game of Thrones. I’ve been on it for nearly a decade but it’s definitely difficult."
We’ll get a taste of what she means when season 8 debuts next year.
