Westworld’s favorite couple has to be Hector and Maeve. Not only because they support each other but because they’re willing to constantly risk their lives for one other.

Westworld relationships are complicated. The fictional park is a stage for violence and the most gruesome of evils when it comes to being free to do whatever, making it hard for love to bloom in such a place. Somehow, Maeve and Hector have existed above the negative and created a genuine bond.

The fact that they’re two hosts that are not supposed to know about real human emotion has not stopped them from having the most real of love affairs on the show. What started out as a flirtation programmed by Lee Sizemore, has evolved into two beings caring for each other beyond what their hardware tells them. They’re even willing to die in the process of supporting each other.

Maeve and Hector are true relationship goals. Their relationship is exceptional for the many reasons we’ve listed in this article–so join us as we explore their relationship in all its beauty and romance.

Lee Sizemore may have programmed Hector to have a real love running in the back of his mind, but he manages to overpower that coding to dedicate himself to Maeve. What started out as a harmless flirtation for entertainment, under Sizemore’s direction, turned into a solid affection between two people.

Who wouldn’t want a significant other that forgets about what they’ve been told and goes with what their heart tells them?

Hector is supposed to be a vandal without a care for anything other than stealing money with his band of thieves and enjoying the spoils. But he never comes off as a threat to Maeve even when he was in character.

Maeve never puts off a fight when he charges into the Mariposa to take what they have in the safe. Maeve also tells him eventually that there isn’t anything of value inside the big piggy bank. What’s great about the seemingly tricky relationship is that Hector respects Maeve and doesn’t abuse his power even if he has the upper hand.

After Maeve becomes sentient and realizes that there’s a whole new world out there, her new objective becomes escaping Westworld and blending in with humans. She devises a plan with the Delos techs to pass off as a human and hop on the train that leaves for the human world.

Maeve reaches out to Hector for help, and he agrees without the need for money or promises. He is willing to risk his life and the life of Armistice to take on the challenge of the Delos soldiers that may stand in their way.

Hector is willing to risk it all for someone who he has a close connection to and who he may never see again. It is that selfless love that makes their relationship so amazing.

Maeve’s thoughts of her daughter won’t let her rest, and she gets off the train before it leaves Westworld. She figures that maybe she should go and rescue her daughter before thinking of saving herself. Back at the Mesa, she discovers Hector having a drink after thinking he had another victory in his hands.

And this time, Maeve asks Hector to risk his life again to get her to Homestead. The journey is long, and the enemies are unknown, and Hector still agrees! That’s love right there!

Sizemore tried to burst Maeve and Hector’s bubble by telling them that he’s the one that programmed their flirtation but that they shouldn’t be going beyond what he set up. He says that Hector was supposed to be entirely in love with someone else and destined to a lonely existence because that person doesn’t even exist.

In true Hector fashion, Hector grabs Sizemore by the collar and tells him that he’s in control of his own decisions and he’s going to like whoever he pleases and that just so happens to be Maeve. Hector and Maeve’s transcends coding, special commands, and the opinions of those around them. Who cares what anyone else thinks when you care about each other?

Nothing says I love you like getting arrested in another country for your beloved. And may I say that Hector’s devotion to Maeve also goes beyond himself and expands to his friends?

Armistice has put aside her past hobby of inking herself with the blood of her mother’s killers to help Hector and Maeve. Not to mention that she had to cut off her arm at the Mesa and she is still completely down to be a part of Maeve’s mission with its dangerous surprises in every corner.

Even as Hector hates being around Musashi, out of pure jealousy and ego, he remains in Shogun world to protect and assist Maeve. The small price is that he stares down Musashi menacingly like he’s lunch meat. Oh, the crazy things love makes you do.

Once in Homestead, Hector doesn’t immediately leave Maeve when she reaches her daughter–he watches from a distance like a protector. He doesn’t make it in in time to save Maeve from the Man in Black and the Delos soldiers that shoot her down.

However, Hector’s presence allows for a new rescue strategy. Inevitably, Hector will seek out to rescue Maeve and not give up on her because she had a slab of meat coming out of her neck.

Before Hector and friends could reach Maeve’s floor at the Mesa, the marvelous Maeve has used her core functions to save herself. Hector doesn’t feel any way about it either, it’s like he almost expected her to be that resilient. The woman can control people with her mind. She’s unstoppable, and yet, he showed up anyway.

The Valley Beyond is the portal to a digital world free of human control, and Hector and Armistice saw it before them. Instead of running through and telling everyone else to screw everything, they remained dedicated to Maeve’s mission to get a hold of her daughter.

Clementine shows up on a horse and passes on the virus that causes the hosts to fight each other to the death thus closing in on the amount of time they had to reach the door to the Valley Beyond.
