The wait for the final season of Game of Thrones continues, but fans of George R.R. Martin won’t have to wait until 2019 to step inside his head. For a while now, SyFy has been working on an adaptation of his 1980 novella Nightflyers. Perhaps aware that Martin fans aren’t the most patient lot, SyFy has announced a release date: Sunday, December 2! Let’s celebrate with a new trailer:

Spooky.

But there’s more to the release date than that. Viewers will be able to watch all 10 episodes from the first season over a very compressed period of time. Here’s how the rollout works: The premiere episode will air on Sunday, December 2 at 9:00 CST, with Episodes 2-5 airing every subsequent night at the same time through Thursday, December 6. Episode 6 drops the following Sunday, December 9, with Episodes 7-10 airing at the same time every night thereafter. You can watch each episode on SyFy, SyFy On Demand, on SYFY.com or by using the SYFY app. No matter where you watch it, SyFy promises limited commercial interruption in addition to weekend marathons to catch up.

Why isn’t SyFy just releasing the episodes one per week like usual? Perhaps they’re trying to a compete in a binge-worthy world…or maybe they want to air the episodes quickly because the show isn’t very good. Viva December!

Here’s SyFy’s official description of the show:

"Nightflyers follows a team of scientists aboard The Nightflyer, the most advanced ship ever built, as they embark on a journey to find other life forms. Their mission takes them to the edge of the solar system, and to the edge of insanity, as they realize true horror isn’t waiting for them in outer space—it’s already on their ship."

Nightflyers stars Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Gretchen Mol, Jodie Turner-Smith, Angus Sampson, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet and Brían F. O’Byrne. We’re taking bets on who survives.
